Final Draft Advert

I have provided enough information on the advert and the layout and colours have worked well. My advert is complete.

Audience Feedback on Digi Pack

 Outside Cover
Inside Cover

Audience Comments

Georgina:
The brightness on right of your model's face is quite strong however this works because it shows that you are she is used to emphasise the album title 'Her' rather than just being a pretty face on the cover. I like that the outside cover focuses on the meaning of the album whereas the inside is all about the artist.

Rosie:
I really like the front cover but the text on the back over could be difficult to read.
text on back difficult to read

Ellen:
I think that it could be slightly confusing as to why you have a girl on the front cover. I like that the red hair contrasts with leaves which creates a very rustic look. The full picture on inside of the artist which continues across the two pages is really nice.

Third Draft Advert

Now that I have used more text and a greater variety of font and information I am happy with the current progress of my advert.

Second Draft Advert

I have changed the colours and positioning of the text as I'm trying to decided which font and colour works best. In my following draft I will be adding more text as I feel that there could be more information used on the advert.

Final Front Cover

This is my completed front cover for my digi pack, I have ensured that my titles are clear and visible but do not take focus away from my image.

Final Inside Cover

My inside cover places attention of my artist Ben Howard so I have not used any text which could potentially act as a distraction. I have placed the CD onto the page to show exactly where it would be placed.

Final Back Cover

This is the final draft of my back cover. As shown above I have balanced the focus on the image with the track listing as in my opinion these are the two most important features of my back cover.

First Draft Advert

This is the first draft of my advert. I have selected an image, the same image as the front cover of my digi pack. I think that  it is necessary to have continuity across my media products because it makes it easier in my opinion for audiences to identify the link between the products. Members of the audience who may have only seen the advert will be able to instantly recognise the digi pack. The advert differs to the digi pack as it's conventional features are slightly different because the advert serves as different purpose. The advert is used to alert audiences and Ben Howard's fans of his new album so the release date and album title are two main features. I have also decided to include comments made on the album by critics and some logos, for example the blackberry barcode which blackberry users could use to reach a group on blackberry messenger which distributes information about the upcoming album.

First Draft Inside Digi Pack

For the inside covers of my digi pack I have decided to use one images across the two pages. I feel that this image is strong enough to be used as a double page spread. I think it is also important that Ben Howard, my artist is the complete focus for my inside covers as the outside covers focus on the figure that the soundtracks are directed towards.

Back Cover Progress

I have made a lot of changes to the back cover of my digi pack. I decided to move the track list away from the back of my model because the image is a key feature of a digi pack cover so I moved the track list to the left hand side of the cover and consequently the positioning of logos has also changed.

Digi Pack Progress

Above shows my current stage of editing with my front and back cover. In my following drafts I aim to maintain continuity across all covers of my digi pack to create a complete package which works well together.

Back Cover: Digi Pack

Above shows my current progress with the back cover of my digi pack. I have chosen to put the tracks of the CD over the back of my model as I feel that the text is very clear and visible against the back of her hair. I have used the conventional features of a back cover, the record company logo and information is visible on the back. The Also features such as the bar code and DVD logo are displayed.
The first draft of my cover has highlighted to me the importance of using conventional aspects of a back cover for it to be familiar with the audience. I feel that the positioning of my track list could potentially take away from the beauty of the image. However this is something which I will work more with in further drafts of my back cover.

Editing My Front Cover

The images below show that I have now chosen my front cover image. I am currently editing the cover which involves trying out different potential titles to see which suits Ben Howard's image best.

Deciding between Drafts

As I was strugling to decide which Front Cover image to use on my digi pack I decided to ask 20 people which image they liked the most. The image which was most popular with my audience was my first potential draft (image below). I also have decided I want to use this image as it places a strong emphasis on the guitar, which is an item that Ben Howard is never far from.

Digi Pack Front Cover Drafts

Above shows four potential first drafts for the front cover of my digi pack cover. I have started with four drafts because I was unable to make a decision of which image I would use on my cover, so I decided to begin the process with all 4 images and then receive some feedback and make my own decision on which appeals to the audience the most and which I think is the strongest image. At the moment I have placed a black coloured title on all images, however I am aware that some need either brighter colours or a larger font to make them more visible to the audience in my next drafts.

Possible Titles

Above shows the titles which I am currently considering to use on my digi pack. Generally I have used simple fonts and styles to continue the simplistic style which Ben Howard has across all of my media products. The website which I have used to get these fonts is dafont.com

Photoshoots with my artist

This photoshoot with my artist was a result of audience feedback from the first draft of my music video. As members of the audiences felt that some performance or scenes of the artist were needed in my muisc video. I then decided to act upon this feedback and filmed scences with my artist, I also took a photoshoot as I needed to incorporate my artist into my digi pack. Some of the photos from the shoot are shown below.

Editing: Images for Digi Pack

Above is a first attempt of editing an image which I am going to use for my digi pack. I have selected half of the image, the left side and I have edited the colour of the image using black and white. The right side is the original image, it has not yet been edited. The purpose of this editing is to emphasise the two contratst in emotion of the songs on the album, some songs are dull and rather slow while others are happier and upbeat.

Experimenting with Photoshop

I am beginning the process of editing photos from my Digi Pack shoot. I decided to try an idea which I had thought of using on my CD cover. I wanted to put several cut outs of my images of my actor Leonie, onto the same photo which I had taken of the forest where we were shooting. I like this idea however it proved difficult because I didn't have any long shots of Leonie to put into the background. For now, I am going to continue editing other ideas which I have for my digi pack and I may return to this idea at a later point.

Sketches for my Digi Pack

First Sketch

Above is a sketch of a potential cover for the CD case, I have decided to use a simple 4 side CD cover as I feel it fits with the simplicity of the style of Ben Howard's music. The left hand of the sketch is the front cover of the digi pack, I have used conventional text on my CD cover as the name of the artist and the album title is presented. The artist's name will be displayed in large font as it is a key selling point for the digi pack and will catch the attentions of the potential consumers and fans. The main image on the front cover will be a mid shot of my actor Leonie, however as the album cover focuses not only on the single which Leonie is present but the album and soundtracks as a whole I will use photoshop to enhance the image and make the focal point her hair and the layout of the image rather than solely Leonie. On the right is the back cover of my CD, here the full album songlist will be displayed, extra bonuses such as 'Live Editions' and 'Acoustic Covers' done by Ben Howard will also be available on the CD. Conventional information such as production information about the album, the record company, a barcode and the DVD logo will also be on the back cover. The image which I will use on the back cover which be a photo from behind of a teenage girl outdoors, the focus will be placed again on her hair.

Above shows a sketch of the inside covers of my digi pack. The left hand side will focus on an image of my artist outdoors surrounded by nature. In large font on this page there will also be a comment from my artist about their new album. I have decided not to put a lot of text on this page as I would prefer the image to be at the centre of the audience's attention. On the right the CD for the album will be placed in my digi pack. Evidently this will take up the majority of this cover so I decided to put a simple background of the forest, and the trees against the sun.

Second Sketch

I decided to do a second sketch of the potential covers for my CD case. Before starting my second sketch I realised that it was necessary to pay more attention to the size of a CD case, as my first sketch is not in proportion to an actual digi pack. As I have decided that I will create a CD case which has only 4 covers, I used this style again with my second sketch. The purpose of doing a second sketch is to explore the different images which I could use on the cover and how this will impact on the presentation of the CD. In this skecth on the left, my artist is the main focus as he is on the front cover of the CD cas,e this is clear to the audience unlike the front cover of the first sketch. On the right, the back cover of the CD, I have decided to use the image which places strong focus on her hair. I feel like the image will work here because it is a simple yet effective background which will fit in behind the information such as the album track list and production information.

Above shows the second sketch for the inside of my CD case. On the left I would like to place an image of my character flinging her hair back and forth. This image represents the freedom, the sense of exitement and adrenaline which Ben Howard's music will give to his fans. This image will also be displayed with a short comment on the album from Ben Howard. On the right is the cover where the album CD will be placed. Here the sketch is similar to my first sketch this is because I haven't completely decided which other image I would like to place on this cover as it will be obscured by the CD, so at the moment I have kept the idea of my scenery and landscape.

Artist Adverts

This is Rihanna's magazine advert for her album 'Rated R'. Rihanna's name is displayed in large block capitals at the centre as it is a strong marketing point for the advert. The audience are immediately made aware who the advert is for. The image is strong and therefore it is able to be presented in black and white in order to bring some of the attention to the titles of two of the singles which are highlighted in red below. The use of black and white implies that the mood of the album could be quite dark and aggressive.

This is an advert for Jessie J's first album 'Who You Are'. The colours used in the advert black, white and gold are very simplistic yet bold. The audiences eyes are drawn again to the artist name 'Jessie J' which uses a strong font and is at the centre of the magazine. Jessie J's look in the advert is fearless and daring which is unusual and therefore quite interesting for the audience. The majority of the information for the album is presented seperately from the image so that the strength of the image is not lost.

This is an advert for Ellie Goulding's single - Lights. The advert here reflects the image of the artist, it is magical and carefree which is emphasises by the used of the lighting in her hair. Good comments by members in the music industry are displayed in the advert for the single which imply to the audience that it is a single worth buying and listening to.

This is an advert for Drake's album Take Care. The key points of sale in this advert are the artist's name and the date that the album is released. Less attempt is made to emphasize how good the album is which implies that Drake is an established artist, he already has a large fanbase so in order for the album to be successful this fanbase just needs to know when the album is available.

Examples

As I am in the process of researching and creating a digi pack, I have looked at different CD cover layouts online.

The digi pack layout which I like the most is the second image. It keeps the simple design of a normal CD case (fourth image) however has more space to include a strong design and to present an artist to it's audience. In terms of choosing the layout which I am going to use for my own digi pack, I have not completely decided, however it is likely to be similar to one of the above designs.
